The Weekend

Right after the proposal, we paused and called our family to let them know that we were engaged! I was so happy that I didn't have to tell them that I had incorrectly anticipated a proposal. It just happened earlier than I expected, which is even better!

The next thing Johannes wanted to do was educate me on diamonds. If you know
Johannes, you know how obsessed he gets when he makes big purchases. When he bought his stereo equipment, I thought he had become an incurable audiophile because he was constantly on newsgroups, doing research on the web, and visiting stores that had the equipment he was interested in. It was no different with diamonds. He spent four months doing extensive research, and toward the end, he knew more about diamonds and their characteristics than some of the jewlers he visited. In the picture above, I am holding some of the literature that he brought along on the trip so that I could learn more about my stone!

I didn't remember too much of what I read (I hope Johannes doesn't read this section), but the part I did remember was that my diamond has hearts and arrows in it. The picture to the right is actually a photograph of my stone under a microscope. The circle on the left with the arrows shooting out of the center is the top view, and the circle

with the hearts is the bottom view. I already told you about my fascination with fairytales, right? Well, I am also a hopeless romantic, and just how perfectly romantic is it to have hearts embedded in an engagement ring? If you want to know why I have hearts and arrows in my diamond, let me know and I'll send you the literature!

Here is the ring. This is actually the first version of the ring. Johannes had it custom designed, but he didn't like how thick the band looked on my finger, so we sent it back for a quick makeover. [Click here to see the final version.]

I went to sleep that evening probably one of the happiest people in the world.
The Weekend continues.....
